| NAUI Openwater 1: Summer, 1987 |
| Edward was certified and did his first Openwater dives in Kill
Devil Hills, North Carolina. His instructor's name was Jim Bunch and
other than that, he couldn't tell you much more about it. He remembers
doing shore dives to a few wrecks we couldn't see very well and he
remembers it was pretty cold. He also remembers going to an abandoned
quarry of some kind further inland. There was a wreck of a Volkswagon
Beetle on the bottom that, at that time, seemed pretty interesting.

| NAUI Openwater 1: Winter, 1992 |
| As a senior at UNCW, Edward took an Openwater 1 SCUBA course for
university credit. This was the same stuff he certified in in 1987 but
he wanted a refresher (and the easy credits).
Went through the coursework again and did some pool diving. He might
have even gotten an "A" in the course. |
